Update on the Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus) – October 2026
We are deeply saddened to report that on the night of 24 October 2026, the Eagle’s Nest above Berchtesgaden was largely destroyed by a fire. No one was injured. According to the authorities, the fire was most likely set deliberately; a suspect was detained. You can read more in the reports by CNN and ZDF (in German).
The Kehlstein bus up to the Eagle’s Nest is currently not running, and it is not yet known when the building will reopen. The Eagle’s Nest would be closed for the winter season anyway.
Our tours to Berchtesgaden will of course continue. On our Eagle’s Nest tour, the focus now moves to the Documentation Center Obersalzberg, which is open as usual and tells the history of this place in depth. Existing bookings remain valid, new bookings are welcome – and we are happy to suggest alternatives. We will keep you updated here.
Danube river cruise cancelled? We’ve got you covered
Low water on the Danube has led several river cruise lines to cancel sailings or change their itineraries this autumn. If your cruise is affected, we can help: private minivan transfers and tours between Vienna and Salzburg (via the Wachau valley with Melk and Dürnstein, via Hallstatt or via Český Krumlov), and pick-up directly at your ship in Passau or Linz. More time. More value.
That is our promise on every one of our tours – from our walking tours to our day trips to Hallstatt and beyond. No rushing from sight to sight, but enough time to really experience each place.
Our tour to the filming locations of “The Sound of Music” movie now runs 4.5 hours
We have extended our public and private tours to the filming locations of “The Sound of Music” movie to 4.5 hours. The extra time goes where it matters: longer stops at the filming locations, time to stroll through the lakeside village of Mondsee, and no rushing back to the van.
New: the Sound of Music Museum in Hellbrunn
From late March to late October, our tours include about 20 minutes to visit the new Sound of Music Museum in Hellbrunn. The entrance fee is not included in the tour price – but it is free with the Salzburg Card. We generally recommend the Salzburg Card for every stay in Salzburg.
Coming soon: a new Berchtesgaden tour
We are currently working on a new tour to Berchtesgaden, which will be online soon. Stay tuned!
