From Uncertainty to Pure Magic: Bob’s Tours Delivered

We booked a private Sound of Music + Hallstatt tour with Bob’s Tours, and we are so glad we did. Our day began with a small hiccup, but the team recovered with such professionalism and care that it quickly became one of the highlights of our entire trip. Because of that adjustment, we had the pleasure of spending the day with two outstanding guides, Elvis and Francesca. They brought an extraordinary mix of knowledge, passion, humor, and calm confidence behind the wheel. Their storytelling made Salzburg’s history and the Sound of Music locations feel alive, and their familiarity with the region gave us insights we never would have discovered on our own. Hallstatt was absolutely spectacular. Even after years of seeing photos, nothing prepares you for the beauty of standing there in person — the lake, the mountains, the village… it’s breathtaking. If you’re considering this tour, we highly recommend including the Hallstatt portion. It completes the experience in a way that’s hard to put into words. What started with a moment of uncertainty became an unforgettable day, thanks to Elvis, Francesca, and a company that truly puts its guests first. We would book a private tour with Bob’s Tours again in a heartbeat.

What a perfect way to spend 4 hours in Salzburg!

It was a cold and rainy day in Salzburg, but we had the very best time on the small group Sound of Music Movie tour. Out friendly guide was full of interesting information about history, the city and, of course, The Sound of Music. She was always happy to take pictures for us, provided ample rest room opportunities and made the entire trip comfortable and enjoyable. We loved going to venues outside of Salzburg and seeing a bit of the “hillside” and quaint villages. The group size is perfect- it’s like a private tour for - fraction of the price. As half our group planned to go to the fortress after, she made a special stop with the van for us at the funicular. We are on a nine day German/Austrian adventure and this has definitely been the highlight of our trip! Do not hesitate- go ahead and book before it is full. You will not regret it!

What a fabulous tour!

Five in our group on a Monday morning (although the van could seat 7) was a very comfortable and convenient size. Our guide was a last minute fill-in due to a home emergency with our scheduled guide. She did an amazing job narrating the entire time using a microphone so all could clearly hear. We learned tons of fascinating information related to every site we visited, all movie locations for to the Sound of Music movie. We weren't rushed but made efficient use of our 4 hours. This tour was worth every penny. It exceeded our expectations. Our guide's knowledge base was impressive.

Guide Laura was fantastic

Guide Laura was fantastic, kind, excellent driving skills and enunciation. The sites covered Were vast even given it was the busy weekend before Christmas. I do wish we would have e stopped at the look out in the Lake District for photos, before heading to the wedding church. Mondsee has its weekend market so that was a special highlight!

Personalised Tour

The small group tour is a great experience. The guide brought us closer to the filming sites with detailed explanation of the history of the locations. He also explain the differences between real life Von Trapp family and the movie. The tour feels more personalised than the big bus tours. Hallstatt is a beautiful town but it’s very crowded even in the low season. The cable car is closed during our visit. Overall a very good experience.

Wonderful small-group Sound of Music tour experience

We thoroughly enjoyed our small-group (eight people plus tour guide in a small van) tour with Franceska. She was very knowledgeable, sharing not just Sound of Music movie filming insights, but the real family history and connection to the area. Of course we listened to all the songs from the movie, appropriate to what sight we had just visited or were about to visit, and she showed us many still shots from the movie when were were at the various locations. The tour went well out of Salzburg to the church where the movie wedding scene was filmed, so it was really nice to get a sense of the countryside and small towns. The time went very quickly, with ample opportunity to get out and stretch our legs, take bathroom breaks, or get a coffee. At one point we crossed paths with one of the big bus Sound of Music tours (about 50 people), and we agreed we were so happy we were with a small group! If you're a Sound of Music film buff, I really recommend using Bob's Special Tours.

This is such a good tour to do!

Bob’s company are very efficient, with a max of 8 people on the mini bus, and our guide Elvis was great fun! The tour takes you out of the city and around all the sites of the movie locations and Elvis kept us entertained all the way round. He was full of information about anything and everything and we had a great four hours together. We sung ‘The Hills Are Alive’ running through the field of snow, and stopped for hot drinks and cake before coming back to the city to the Mirabell Gardens to see the location shots in town. We’re coming back to do this again in the Spring one year, to see Salzburg in the sunshine! A highly recommendable tour. Thank you Elvis!

Private tour Hallstatt

Bobs special tours - booked a day trip to Hallstatt from Salzburg. We met our guide ‘Elvis’ who became our best friend for the day. A lovely human who drove us to Hallstatt, explained the history of the area and left us with plenty of time to tour on our own. When we asked him to pick us up later then planned it was not an issue. Our day was enjoyable, Hallstatt is a wonderful small boutique village with so much natural beauty - I am glad we visited in winter when the crowds were low. The day was made special by the wonderful service from Elvis and Bobs special tour. Thank you Elvis!

Excellent tour

Not only of filming locations, but city of Salzburg in general. (We took the 4 hour Sound of Music tour.) Elvis, our guide, was enthusiastic and quite frankly, just a lot of fun. Highly recommend if you would rather spend the day with a few people instead of a large crowd.

Thank you to a wonderful team!

Office easy to find. Our driver, Elvis , on time, knowledgeable about the back stories of the movie, play, and the real Maria's life. Played the movie soundtrack so we could sing all the songs and he joined in. Helped the ladies out of the shuttle. The four hour tour was everything I'd read about, expected and I was really thrilled when we pulled up to the meadow for the Sound of Music and he asked me if I wanted to twirl. I would have till he said the owner didn't like people trampling grass his cows ate. We got to see the lakes the helicopter flew over in the opening scenes, and the church Maria and the Captain were married. A wonderful afternoon seeing all the locations the movie was shot. This was a special day as I celebrated my 75th birthday month. Thank you to a wonderful team!!

Excellent tour

Did exactly what was described on the website. Elvis our tour guide and driver was great, full of information about the film and the real life Von Trapps along with additional info about Mozart and pre war Austria. Myself and two daughters were the only ones on the tour that day which was a bonus as he also became our personal photographer. Elvis - thank you very much 😀

Enjoyed my tour

Thoroughly enjoyed my tour to Hallstadt and The Sound of Music sites. Bob’s tour was both educational and fun. Our tour guide Elvis was very knowledgeable about the country’s history and added so much more to the tour than I could have expected. Friends recommended Bob’s Tours and I’m happy I listened. I’ll use them the next time I visit.

It was a lovely day trip

It was a lovely day trip to visit the Sound of Music sights and Hallstatt with Bob's tours. Our guide Francesca is knowledgeable and friendly. I enjoyed the small group tour very much. Highly recommended!

We absolutely loved Bob's!

We did the tour in December and loved seeing the sites decked out for the holidays. Francesca was our guide for the day... she was FANTASYIC! She is very knowledgeable, not only about the behind the scenes details of the film, but also about the history of Salzburg. She shared with us the beauty and history of Austria. We covered so much in 8 hours and walking was minimal as we drove to all sites. I highly recommend this tour!

Wow!

This was the best tour ever! (If you haven’t booked your Sound of Music tour yet- book this one!). We first did the Sound of Music bus tour and then we did Bob’s tours- Bob’s in our opinions topped it! I’ll include below why. If you booked your bus tour already, still book this one. If you haven’t booked your Sound of Music bus tour, then only book this one-Bob’s tour goes above and beyond and you’re able to go to so many more places and up close. Everything we did in the bus tour, we were able to that and much xxxtimes more. More personalized and one-on-one when booking with this tour. (No, I’m not sponsored or given a commission with this :) just I like to be helpful and truly appreciate when I read reviews that provide the same). Mohid was our driver and tour guide and he did amazing! He was attentive, informative, took us straight to all the different spots from the Sound of Music and more! He showed us exact scenes and pictures from the movies and where it was located in person. He took pictures for us, and went above and beyond. One area of growth- at the end where the last part is where Maria(Julie Andrews) and the children filmed some of their “Do Re Me” song, there is the trellis, fountain, and steps scene , it ended abruptly (for both tours actually). I recommend for fans (what my family and I did) we did our own copy of the scenes, march around/on the fountain, run through the trellis (left of the fountain), and then the steps scene (to the right of the fountain, you have go towards the front of the steps as it’s blocked off from the back) place your camera on the wooden sign and you can film your jumping steps scene. Our family memorized the Sound of Music movie (and even though we watched it again before coming), we are excited to watch it again!

Wonderfull Day

We had a wonderful day out to many of the filming sites from The Sound of Music. Our guide told us all sorts of fun facts about the movie and he was super knowledgeable!

It was excellent!

Did the Sound of Music tours with Bobs Tours while in Salzburg, and it was excellent. Special callout and thanks to our guide Elvis as he was fantastic; knowledgebale, funny, witty, friendly and personable, he made the tour so interesting, and not just about the movie, but some of the history of the family, and the real stories that are not well known. Also Bobs tours are max 8 people, only 4 on this one, so infinitely better than a big coach as we could also go places they could not. Absolutely recommend Bobs Tours, you will enjoy.

Best decision we made on our trip!

We got to see so much of Salzburg and Halstatt and the surrounding villages all while getting a history lesson and seeing some filming locations for the Sound of Music. Our guide, Elvis, was wonderful and fun and really gave us so much information. Spending the day with him was easy and he went above and beyond! We really enjoyed this tour and would 100% do it again if ever in the area.

Sound of music revisited!

Francesca was very accommodating - we called her to report the taxi had gone to the incorrect tour site, and we would be 5 + minutes late. She was very understanding and checked with the other 5 people going on the tour if they were OK waiting for us!! They all agreed, so we arrived 10 min late, and all was happy. Francesca was very informative and made sure she took pics of each as requested at each stop. She gave us potty breaks and time to grab a snack etc. Even charged our cells while driving and helped all out of van. Was open to all questions - excellent driver and a wealth of knowledge! Thank you, Francesca, for being so upbeat , informative, and a pleasure to spend 4 hrs with learning more about the sound of music!

Amazing experience!

Highly recommend this tour! Great way to explore the Sound of Music Movie sights and drive around the beautiful scenery. Elvis was so kind and we learnt a lot about the movie and Salzburg! We loved that this tour was a small group so it didn’t feel crowded. Very worth it!

Absolutely amazing trip , excellent value for money

The trip was absolutely amazing, I also incorporated Hallstatt, Francesca was our operator, she made the journey so special, excellent at her job, well presented, and made sure we had an amazing experience. A must do in Salzburg.

This tour is the very best and only way I would recommend doing the Sound of Music Movie!

This is the very best tour in Salzburg to see and learn about filming of The Sound of Music Movie. There were only three of us in our van. Francesca is incredibly personable and knowledgeable as well as fun to be with. Growing up in Salisbury she had personal experience playing in the famous gazebo. I also liked that she had photos from the film as well as real photos from the filming of the show to share with us. We had a wonderful tour of the city and countryside! Couldn't ask for a more memorable experience.

Oh my gosh!

This was the BEST thing we did our whole trip! We had eight family members ranging from 82 years old down to ten years old! This was the PERFECT way to see Salzburg!! Elvis, our AMAZING tour guide went ABOVE & beyond showing us all of Salzburg with tons of knowledge, insider info and great stories! He drove us all over in his comfortable van playing Sound of Music in the car and taking our family pictures in every stop!! He became family to us that day and we LOVED every minute of the tour! Thank you Elvis! It EXCEEDED our expectations! Sooo thankful!

Despite the weather!

We just came back from a full day Sound of Music Movie + Hallstatt tour, with Elvis as our guide. It felt as if it was a personal friend showing us around Austria, and imparting to us many fun facts and stories along the way. More importantly, it being a small group tour, Elvis was able to make adjustments to the schedule to get around less-than-ideal weather at the start of the tour to make sure we get the best of the day. This tour is highly recommended.

Amazing tour guide

We did the full day Sound of Music Movie, and Francesca was an amazing guide! I was glad that she was our guide, as admittedly I had been worried about whom we would get, given some of the negative reviews about the other guides. She really knew her stuff and gave a very interesting tour, and we learned a lot more about the movie. Halstatt is also beautiful, albeit expensive!

Great Day!

We took the Sound of Music Movie on Friday the 10th of October and had a wonderful time. Our host was great and she gave us a lot of insight into behind the scenes information we would have never known. It was a small group tour and we enjoy it a lot. The ride from Salzburg to the church was stunning with great scenery in Alpine meadows and fields. We saw lots of cows, cars and a red deer lounging in a field. If you like the Sound of Music or are just curious it was a great tour to take.

Fun for everybody!

I’m a big fan of the movie, so this tour was a MUST, but I (and my hapless family members in tow) assumed that the experience would be somewhat frivolous or one note and we were steeling ourselves for that. Oh how wrong we were! With our incredible tour guide, this tour presented a layered area history combining movie info from the 1960s, the real people upon whom the story is based (1920s to the present), Nazi political history, and a picturesque drive outside of Salzburg to the lake area, complete with stops for pictures and more. Air conditioned van made it especially comfortable. Highly, highly recommend!!!

Delightful Salzburg Sound of Music Movie

Delightful on location tour of memorable Salzburg area sites used in the filming of The Sound of Music Movie! Our excellent tour guide showed us photos from the movie scenes as we looked at the venue today, making it easy to visualize and interesting to compare what the cinematographer recorded to our current experience.
