Throughout the tour, you’ll also explore the world of The Sound of Music Movie. Visit original filming locations such as the famous gazebo and the movie wedding church, while hearing the fascinating story behind the movie, the real Von Trapp family, and Austrian culture beyond the film.

From the very beginning, you’ll notice the difference: Instead of meeting on a busy street, your experience starts in our welcoming office. Take a moment to arrive, relax on our couch, browse through books and magazines, use the restroom facilities, or refresh yourself with water or juice before the tour begins.

Once on the road, we combine scenic stops, storytelling and personal interaction, giving you not only the highlights, but also the context and deeper understanding behind them.

A short guided walk around the historic area surrounding Salzburg Cathedral is included (about 40 minutes), adding an extra layer to your experience that most tours simply don’t offer.

Highlights

Your experience begins with a short city tour through Salzburg Old Town, where you’ll discover iconic filming locations while enjoying a mix of walking and scenic driving.

Next, visit the lake Leopoldskron, one of the original Von Trapp homes, where the famous lake scene with the children was filmed. Continue to Hellbrunn Park and its charming Gazebo which is one of the most beloved and recognizable film settings.

Relax as we drive through the breathtaking landscapes of the Salzkammergut, past the emerald green lake Fuschl further to St. Gilgen and the sparkling Wolfgangsee. In Mondsee, step inside the parish church, famous as the wedding location of Maria and Captain von Trapp, and enjoy some free time to explore the charming village.

Your tour concludes in the beautiful Mirabell Gardens, where Maria and the children joyfully sang “Do-Re-Mi.”

Itinerary

1. A short city tour in Salzburg, combining driving and approximately 45 minutes of walking through the historic Old Town, with a focus on The Sound of Music Movie and its most iconic locations.
2. A scenic stop at lake Leopoldskron, a key filming location from The Sound of Music Movie, famous for the iconic boat scene. This picturesque setting was used as the backdrop for the garden side of the Von Trapp family home.
3. A visit to Hellbrunn Park with access to the iconic “16 going on 17” gazebo.
4. A scenic drive through the beautiful Salzkammergut, passing the emerald-green Fuschlsee and enjoy breathtaking views over Lake Wolfgang (Wolfgangsee), one of Austria’s most picturesque alpine lakes.
5. A visit to the parish church of Mondsee, the famous movie wedding church from The Sound of Music Movie, with time to walk inside and explore the village at your own pace.

• The original Von Trapp villa cannot be visited as it is privately owned by the church.
• Schloss Leopoldskron can only be viewed from across the Leopoldskroner Weiher (pond) as it operates as a private hotel.
• Private option can only be booked for a maximum of 8 persons – if you are more, please contact us directly!
• Each guest requires a fully usable individual seat.
  If more space is needed than a standard seat provides, an additional seat (second ticket – child rate) must be booked for comfort and safety reasons.
• For travelers who prefer additional personal space or distance from other passengers, we recommend booking two seats.
